Maurice Toroitich is the Managing Director and CEO of Banque Populaire du Rwanda since September 2017. Prior to his current appointment, Maurice Toroitich held a similar role in KCB Bank Rwanda Limited over a period of 8 years. During this period, he led KCB Group entry into the Rwanda market and established KCB Bank Rwanda Ltd as a greenfield operation by effectively championing the development of a wide array of market driven products and services leading to the acquisition of a 9% market share within the 8 year period. Â
Prior to joining KCB Group, Maurice had a long career of 15 years with Stanbic Bank Kenya Ltd where he held various senior assignments in Corporate Banking, Retail and Credit. Maurice has been engaged in several projects in the financial services area including the formation process of Stock Exchanges in Rwanda and the regulations of Capital Markets Authority in Rwanda. He has been associated with several landmark transactions in sectors such as telecommunications, power, consumer, food products and airlines in different countries.
He provided leadership in pioneering the introduction of electronic payment systems, Agency Banking, SME financing programs, entrepreneur development facilities and other important financial initiatives. Maurice has worked along with governments, private and public sector, DFIâ€™s and multilateral agencies on handling sovereign debt issues, infrastructure financing and other development initiatives in Eastern Africa.
Maurice has been the Chairman of Rwanda Bankers Association for two years and Chairman of the Board of Trustees of Stanbic Bank Staff Pension and Life Assurance Scheme from 2004-2008.Â He is a certified Stanbic Bankâ€™s Balanced Score Card (BSC) trainer.
Maurice holds a Master of Business Administration degree from Strathmore Business School, he also holds a Bachelor of Commerce (Accounting Option) from the University of Nairobi.
He is an Associate of the Chartered Institute of Bankers, London (ACIB-London) and a Certified Public Accountant - CPA (K).
RAMBA is an experienced Banker, Investment and Finance Professional with a track record of success in Investment Banking, he is a seasoned investment executive with experience spanning over ten years in some of Rwanda’s biggest public institutions, he currently the Chief Operating Officer of BPR part of Atlas Mara.
Prior to that he served as the Deputy Director General in charge of Funds Management at Rwanda Social Security Board (RSSB) where his role arose out of his stellar performance as the Acting Director General of the Social Security Fund of Rwanda (SSFR) where he was responsible for steering the overall management, while at the security fund body, he managed the institution to prepare its transition to merge it with the government medical scheme. Prior to that he was the Director of Investments and Special Projects where he was responsible for managing SSFR’s $300 million investment portfolio across a number of asset classes. He helped to establish, grow and modernize the Investment Group from its nascent stage, resulting to several years of good performance.
Previously, he worked as a Bank Inspector in the National Bank of Rwanda where he used his accounting and audit background during forensic and statutory audits of several commercial banks as well as advising them on regulation compliance.
RAMBA has also served as the Chairman on a number of Boards such as Banque Populaire du Rwanda, CIMERWA, the biggest cement manufacturer in Rwanda; Rwanda Enterprise Investment Company (REIC), a venture capital fund and Building Materials Investments Company, one of the biggest construction material companies in Rwanda and Mount Meru Soyco Ltd, a regional oil manufacturing company. He also served as a member of the Rwanda Stock Exchange Index Committee. He is a member of the Chartered Certified Accountant (ACCA-UK) and holds a Bachelor’s degree in Economics from National University of Rwanda.
Mugisha Shema Xavier is the Chief Business Officer of Banque Populaire Du Rwanda Plc, with over 14 years of experience in commercial banking, having served in various managerial positions across the banking industry.
Xavier is currently responsible for the execution of the bankâ€™s business development and customer relationship strategy across Personal, SME and Corporate banking segments.
Prior to that, Xavier was the Country Head of Retail banking overseeing Retail business growth in terms of liabilities, assets, product offering and efficiency in digital channels as well as building business skills, maximizing the returns from existing relationship and new business targeted customers in the Rwanda market.
Previously, Xavier also served in BPR as Head of SME overseeing SME credit and deposit portfolios, formulation and implementation of the portfolio development strategies. Working mostly in developing relationship with customers, negotiation, structuring and monitoring of credit facilities.
Xavier holds a Masterâ€™s degree in Business Administration from Jomo Kenyatta University. He has undergone and holds qualifications in numerous trainings in different banking fields including but not limited to trade finance with Citi Bank and Credit assessment with European Investment Bank (EIB).
Mr. Mark Anthony SEBUKIMA is an experienced manager with a solid background in financial management, a talent for business planning and forecasting developed through working in leading key financial institutions.
Mark is currently the Country Head of Global markets & Treasury within BPR part of Atlas Mara Family, He has spent the last seven years in Banque Populaire du Rwanda where he held various positions including the Head of International Operations a position he held for 3 years prior to his appointment as the Country Head of Global Markets and Treasury.
He started his banking career in 1999 with Standard Chartered Uganda., he is a self-motivated, ambitious and responsible training Industrial Psychologist and a trained Statistician and Economist with experience in both financial sales and administration.
Christelle joined BPR in November 2016 as the Country Head of Credit.
Christelle has a wide-ranging experience in banking having joined the industry in 2005 and held various positions including Head of Credit for 5 years and Head of Risk for 2 years at I&M Bank (Rwanda) Ltd.
She has led products and transactions structuring within various sectors of the economy ranging from manufacturing, agriculture, transport, telecommunications, real estate, trade and tourism. She also drove the development of risk management tools including policies leading to better portfolio management and overall enhanced risk culture.
Christelle holds a Masters of Business Administration in Corporate Strategy and Economic Policy from the Maastricht School of Management and has prior experience in Finance and Assurance Services.
Fabrice MUNYAKAZI joined the BPR Atlas Mara family in March 2016 as Country Head of Risk.
He started his banking career with Ecobank Rwanda in 2007 as a credit analyst, He has more than 10 years of banking experience across the corporate & SME banking, credit and risk Management.
Prior to joining BPR He was the chief operating officer at AB Bank Rwanda.
MUNYAKAZI holds a Master of Science (MSc.) from the University of Surrey, UK and a Bachelors of Arts (BA) from Lawrence University, Appleton, USA
Judith joined BPR part of Atlas Mara in January 2016 as a result of a merger with BRD Commercial bank, which was also owned by Atlas Mara, where she held the position of HR Director. Her strategic primary responsibility within her role is to support the bank build sustainable competitive advantage through the selection and development of top talent that possesses capabilities, that differentiate the company from its competitors.
She has over 15years of HRM professional experience, of which 10 years are within the Rwanda’s financial industry at senior Executive level. Prior to 2008, she held other HR roles gaining experience spanning from not-for profit to retail businesses in the UK.
Judith is very passionate about organisational development and service delivery with a business savvy mindset. She attended he Undergraduate studies from Greenwich University U.K and post-graduate studies from London South Bank University.
She also holds various HR professional international qualifications such as Assoc.CIPD and SHRM
Godwin AKANKUNDA joined the BPR Atlas Mara Family in July 2017 as the country Head of Audit, his career began February 2001 as an Auditor in the Office of the Auditor General for State Finances, Rwanda.
He rose through the ranks where he was appointed as the Assistant Auditor General for State Finances of Rwanda in January 2017. Godwin has extensive knowledge and experience in audit planning, monitoring, management, supervision including staff coaching, development and mentoring; gained from several countries including UK, USA, Netherlands, South and East Africa.
Godwin is a member of ACCA, Institute of Certified Public Accountants, Rwanda (iCPAR), He holds an MBA from Oklahoma Christian University, USA and a bachelors’ degree in Management from the National University of Rwanda, currently known as the University of Rwanda.
He has participated in various finance management trainings offered by the UK National Audit Office, US Government Accountability Office (Fellowship Programme), AFROSAI-E South Africa, amongst others.
